Life-skills Learning Development (SLD)

We run Inclusive “Life-skill Learning Development” (SLD) program for Children with Special Needs, which is an exclusive school catering to the needs of children at all levels of disabilities. The school balances academics with skill training and guides the student to be self-reliant. Diverse learning approaches are implemented to help students cope with their condition.

Each child is assessed after which a detailed Learning Profile is prepared. Based on this an exclusive IEP (Individual Education Plan) is designed, delivered and monitored by a team of expert Therapists, Special Educators & other professions. The program focuses on developing a student’s communication skills, social skills and activities of daily living along with academics. Children who are able to cope with academics follow a particular graded curriculum or syllabus and the others are trained in Functional Living Skills and Activity Based Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) Secondary or Higher Secondary Examination. The holistic approach followed by us reduces symptoms and helps the children to function better hence, apart from ‘Academics’ keen attention is paid to:

· Structured Teaching

· Activity Based Learning (ABL)

· Social Stories

· Hand to Heart (Essential Life Skill and Functional Training)

· Self Help Skills (Grooming and Activities of Daily Living – ADL)

· Music

· Art, Craft and Skill training

· Physical Fitness

· Skating

· Yoga and other Extra-curricular activities

· Story Telling

Special Education (NIOS)

National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS): The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) under Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, provides opportunities to the children with special needs, ( who, for any reason, are unable to cope with the formal education system) and helps them to pursue their education by allowing a lot of flexibility in the selection of the subjects ,curriculum and the system of evaluation.

This Institute offers 3 courses under NIOS

  • Open Basic Education (OBE) :

Level ‘A’– Level ‘A’ is equivalent to standard III of the formal school system

Level ‘B’– Level ‘B’ is equivalent to standard V of the formal school system

Level ‘C’– Level ‘C’ is equivalent to standard VIII of the formal school system

  • Secondary and Sr. Secondary courses

  • Vocational Education Course

Children with special needs generally grow into adults who still have special needs. Even though this may seem obvious, inattention to pre-vocational skills can seriously affect the special needs adult's ability to enter the workforce and live a product, self-sustainable life. The introduction of skills that carry over into the workplace can positively impact special needs children when it comes to cognitive development, quality of life and general well-being.

Vocational skills aren't limited to working with your hands or learning a trade. Academic abilities are necessary to complete the complex tasks of most jobs. Children with special needs should master functional academics that will help them to enter the workforce with the basic knowledge necessary to make simple calculations, communicate verbally and write.

You are yourchild’s most important advocate. To best support your child, you may need information about your child’s specific diagnosis, early intervention services (for a baby or toddler), special education services (for a preschool or school-age child), social security benefits, and much more.

Drishtant Special School is After-School Daycare in an inclusive setting located in Sant Nagar. The Daycare offers after-school care for children aged 3–11. There are several children with special educational needs and disabilities who have a range of varying needs, including global developmental delay, affecting social, intellectual and emotional development; left-sided hemiplegia cerebral palsy, affecting use of the left side of the body and fine motor skills; Asperger syndrome and epilepsy etc.

Early Intervention

(Individual Therapy Clinic)

Early intervention is a support and educational system for very young children (aged birth to six years) who are at high risk for developmental disabilities or delays or have been identified as already having disabilities. Early intervention is a system of coordinated services that promotes the child's age-appropriate growth and development and supports families during the critical early years. Starting a partnership between parents and professionals at this early stage helps the child, family and community as a whole.

This program is much needed due to rising number of babies with birth complications and developmental delays and disabilities which were largely going unnoticed due to lack of awareness. The initial years are the critical years in a child’s life where early intervention could possibly prevent or minimize the loss.

Our therapists are trained to work with babies from birth. Any child who has developmental disabilities from or from later age TILL is eligible to join the program. This program requires a parent/caregiver to remain present during the 45 minutes session. Our therapists also train the parent/caregiver in various strategies and methods of

communication that must be followed at home. The development and communication needs of each child will be different and the method used will have to accordingly vary through playway, multi-sensory intervention, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, adapted equipment and materials, and accessible settings for global development.

Mission that early intervention is to ensure that families who have children with disabilities or are at-risk children in this age range receive resources and support that assist them in maximizing their child's physical, cognitive, and social/emotional development and in dealing with their own trauma and disappointment and coming out of it.
